Dory's Bio

      I feel so fortunate to live in the Fingerlakes region. The landscape is full of inspiration and my heart responds to the beauty of this area. I work primarily in dry pastel , acrylic and printmaking. I live and work in Canandaigua ,which is in the heart of the wine country . The vineyards and rolling hills are a rich source of subject matter and I work on location as much as possible. The other artists working in this area are another source of inspiration to me. I love to visit the galleries and shops to see their varied styles and responses to the beauty of the landscape. I have always loved art, whether I'm making it or observing another's creation. I took independant study of art my senior year of high school and graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in Art and Art History. When I began my family ,it was hard to carve out time to work on a large scale, so I began to design note cards and found I loved working small. In the age of email there is still something special about giving and receiving a card, I hope as I continue to grow as an artist my work will capture some measure of the beauty which is all around us if we care to look....
